Blue Lagoon, Iceland

After landing in Iceland we made our way to the Blue Lagoon about 20 minutes from the airport. Luckily we had purchased tickets and transfers the day before so everything went very smoothly. It seems that booking ahead was necessary. Our plane landed at about 6:45AM and our bus left at 7:30. We were there before 8:00. It is an interesting and relaxing place to visit. The most amazing thing though was the weather. It was a perfect temperature and sunny all day long. The lagoon itself is set in a lava field but while the hot water and minerals comes up from the depths, it is man-made as a water collection area from the adjacent geothermal power plant. We enjoyed our stay there after a long sleepless flight. It was very relaxing and uncrowded as we were the first group to get in. We had silica and algae face masks slathered on and met nice interesting people from all over. Also they had a bar in the lagoon sort of like a swim up bar. So to start my day in Iceland I enjoyed Prosecco and Tom had a beer. It was probably about 4:00AM Ontario time! Also because of the minerals in the water it was so easy to float. How relaxing that weightless feeling or was that the Prosecco talking? We had lunch there and boarded our bus back to the airport in time for our 4:15PM flight to Paris!
